OPERATION NORTHWOODS: HAVE CIA AND PENTAGON BEEN CONSPIRING TERRORIST ATTACKS AT THE U.S. TERRITORY?

Nowadays it is difficult to believe in what I say. Records of the abandoned operation Northwoods, which were published according to the 50-years declassification term set by American legislation, might either shock or bring a mistrustful smile to your face. Exactly 50 years ago the CIA along with the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff planned an attack against their own country. On the March 13, 1962 U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara presented the plan of operation for presidential approval of John Kennedy.

In order to avoid the accusations of fomenting anti-American hysteria and to wipe the ironic smiles of the faces of skeptics I’d like to invite all English-speakers to the web-site of George Washington University, where the declassified document is published. Frankly speaking, I used to stick to the same skeptical attitude myself. That’s why, prior to writing this text, I have done everything I could to check the authenticity of this groundbreaking piece of information. Let me tell you straight away — my inspection was quite successful. This mind-boggling plan was actually prepared by Lyman Lemnitzer, Chairman of U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff and presented to the 35th President of the United States John Fitzgerald Kennedy by the U.S. Defense Secretary Robert McNamara.
This may, perhaps, be called one the most scandalous episodes of the modern history. Army planned to attack the very country it swore to protect. As if that fact alone wasn’t enough, mind that this might have potentially triggered the Third World War. James Bamford, well-known American expert on the activity of special services, who authored numerous publications on the matter, dubbed the Northwoods the most amoral plan that has ever been born in Washington. The plan was aimed at Cuba and, according to it, the events were to unfold in the following way. At first, series of terrorist attacks was to shock Cuban districts of Miami, with immigrants making the majority of victims. Then the attacks at Orlando and Washington were to follow. This time American citizens were to befell victims to it. The media must have been puzzled, but the FBI was to confidently point out Fidel Castro’s regime as the culprit behind the attack. The USA has long ago disrupted the relationship with Cuba by the moment, but then the situation was to deteriorate furthermore. Then the diversion against American Guantanamo military base at Cuba was to happen, where a huge explosion destroying a naval ship and killing dozens of American sailors and officers. President Kennedy was to hold a speech in the U.S. Congress:
“Despite everything that disunited us, we have believed into peaceful coexistence with Castro’s regime, but America cannot leave the acts of terrors, conspired at Havana, without a response”.
This was to pave way for an invasion to Cuba — not the disguised one, like a year ago at the Bay of Pigs, but rather an open and full-scale one. World was to hold its breath. Had the USSR thrown its weight behind Cuba, the nuclear war was to start at any given minute. This political fiction sounds breathtaking even today, isn’t it? American army and intelligence were to commit all the terrorist attacks at their own territory. Naturally, this was to be done in order to create a casus belli for invading Cuba and bringing Fidel Castro down, having persuaded the rest of the world that the USA had no other options but to counter the “Cuban aggression”.

First list of the operation Northwoods plan
Many Americans consider McNamara’s suggested means to be terrible. Alas, no one is particularly indignant about the goal itself. Using the terms of Vito Corleone, the White House has always treated Castro as a “stone in its shoe”. However, no Godfather character ever mentioned starting the war because of Cuba. Generals, though, weren’t terrified by the thought and mind that Kennedy’s predecessor in the White House was Dwight Eisenhower, who has seemingly decreed to work this insane plan out. In order to get a better understanding of how this monstrous idea might have struck the heads of the American top brass, we would have to mentally travel back to 1959 — the penultimate year of the second Ike’s term.
President Eisenhower
For America this year started with troubles. Castro’s revolution has swept the Batista’s dictatorship off the future Cuba Libre. The latter was one of the famous “our sons of bitches” for America.
During his rule Cuba was (and those are actual facts, rather than communist propaganda) a country of poverty and oppression. State apparatus, rotten through with pervasive corruption, was preoccupied with securing the profits of American corporations, Batista himself and his surrounding, of course. That’s why Cubans have greeted the revolution as deliverance. The White House was also aware that supporting Batista was a dead-end policy, but they were unable to make peace with Castro, being afraid that the “communist infection” would spread onto entire Latin America.
General Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar Cuban President since 1940 to 1944 and since 1952 to 1959.
Eisenhower’s office disrupted the diplomatic relations with Cuba and started planning the deposition or even physical elimination of Castro, hoping to replace him with a softer version of Batista. Americans have already had some experience with that craft by the moment. Coups in Gwatemala were following one another, juntas were switching places in power and all that featured utmost active participation of the CIA and the U.S. State Department. In March of 1960 Eisehnower approved the plan of covert operations against the Castro’s regime. In accordance to it, the CIA started to carefully create united opposition and the paramilitary organizations of Cuban immigrants in the USA. Besides, an entire program of Castro’s assassination was developed. Hired guns of American East Coast mafia were used as the assassins (thus, reference to don Corleone is well-grounded). Mafia had its own scores with the leader of Cuban revolution — he has laid his hands upon the famous casinos and brothels, which used to bring mafia quite a penny. When it came to the sheer number of assassination attempts, Castro might have contended for a place in the Guinness Records Book — all in all, there were 637 of them. These facts are well known and may illustrate this article, dedicated to what seems to be the most terrible conspiracy in the entire U.S. history — conspiracy against their own nation.
